In a 2011 interview with NPR, Wil Wheaton attributed the film’s success to the director’s casting choices: “Rob Reiner found four young boys who basically were the characters we played. I was awkward and nerdy and shy and uncomfortable in my own skin and really, really sensitive, and River was cool and really smart and passionate and even at that age kind of like a father figure to some of us, Jerry was one of the funniest people I had ever seen in my life, either before or since, and Corey was unbelievably angry and in an incredible amount of pain and had an absolutely terrible relationship with his parents.”

‘Star Trek 2’ Set Photos Show Benedict Cumberbatch Battling Spock

“Star Trek 2” is shrouded in secrecy. We don’t have an official title, we don’t know the plot, and we don’t know who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing — though all signs point to a villain, especially in light of a new set photo that’s just arrived at our door step.
In this first look at director J.J. Abrams’ currently shooting “Star Trek” sequel, we see quite clearly that Zachary Quinto’s returning Spock and the newcomer played by Cumberbatch are very much not friends. The two are locked in battle on top of what’s being described as “a Space Barge set.”
During the battle and in the photo you can see here, Spock does his best to stop his foe using his famous Vulcan Death Grip, but the move fails; Cumberbatch’s character is able to overpower the grip and regain the upper hand in his struggle against the Star Fleet officer.
Interestingly, Spock is not the only one wearing a Star Fleet uniform. Cumberbatch’s unknown character is seen wearing a black version of the uniform under his silver overcoat. A sign that this man was a friend before he was a foe?
In another shot from the epic battle, Zoe Saldana joins the fight once again as Uhura. She’s using a phaser to save Spock from Cumberbatch’s villain, though whether or not she’ll be successful is a completely different story altogether.
Thanks to Eric Ford with On Location News for the awesome new photos!

I had no idea that Pickpocket was a direct influence on American Gigolo (doing some reading now, it is a well known thing. the more you know, I guess!), and I must say watching them back-to-back was a brilliant way to see how Paul Schrader’s film was an updated quasi-remake of the earlier Bresson film. I definitely want to see both films again, and highly recommend them.

The depth of Welles’ rich bass-baritone wants the jargon phonogenic, since the microphone so admires the relaxed, expansive quality that sounds out the fullness of the chest rather than the tightness of the throat. The pitch of the voice allows an emphatically masculine authority to provide the matrix for delicacy and sentiment. It is an astonishing thought that this is the voice of a man in his twenties since a vital part of what it constructs is an air of maturity and experience. It has the sound of one who has lived a lot, seen a lot, and already found quite a deal to regret.

Over at Multiversity Comics, we managed to snag an exclusive look at Riley Rossmo and Alex Link’s new Image series Rebel Blood. It is seriously all kinds of awesome, and it is the most exciting thing to happen to the zombie subgenre of horror in quite a long time.
I would highly recommend checking out the article, if only for the awesome art that Rossmo shared with us, such as the unused cover pictured above.
